General Manager

Sparrow is looking for a General Manager to oversee Retail and E-Commerce sales and operations. The ideal candidate will need to be a self-starter with a can-do and positive attitude and will help oversee the efficient operations of our brand. The candidate will be responsible to grow in-store sales via promotions, events, social media, sorority outreach and via the development of sales staff. They will also advise trends and silhouettes to purchase and assist with the buying needs of the store. Additionally, they will help to support the team with events and growing our private label brand. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative individual with experience and a passion for connecting with our target market and future customers. This position has the responsibility of engaging with our community daily with the ultimate goal of turning fans into clients.

 Job Responsibilities

Retail and E-Commerce Sales

  • Open and close the store as needed, deliver excellent customer service, and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism
  • Develop and hit monthly sales goals, achieve high levels of sales performance results both in store and online
  • Hire and develop talent to meet the store company needs
  • Provide feedback through ongoing training, coaching, and counseling; conduct assessments setting challenging goals to improve employee performance through effective use of development plans
  • Manage the events calendar with the Social Media Marketing Manager and ensure that the team is hosting 4-6 events a month
  • Reach out to other businesses to develop partnerships and promotions
  • Manage employees in execution of daily tasks to maximize sales
  • Manage visual standards in the store, including merchandise presentation, signage, lighting general maintenance
  • Review sales and inventory reports to ensure the store has inventory necessary to react to the sales trends and the needs of the customer
  • Oversee compliance of Sales Associates with established Company policies plus standards, like safekeeping of company funds and property, personnel practices, security, sales, record-keeping procedures and overall maintenance of the store
  • Help solve problems that affect the stores service, efficiency, and productivity
  • Develop and maintain buy plan, keep an excel database with all relevant product information handy to include delivery date, cost, retail, margin etc.
  • Ensure product is prepared for selling prior to arrival, in Shopify, tags printed, steamed etc.
  • Ensure that product gets on the floor within 24 hrs. of arrival
  • Manage the stockroom and ensure product is neatly folded and organized

 Financial Operations Management

  • Meet with owner weekly to keep them informed on all aspects of operations performance
  • Lead the reporting of necessary data for both weekly meetings and misc. needs. This includes assisting with pulling sales reports, sell-through data, and inventory category summaries
  • Track and manage the monthly payables related to the business
  • Report sell-through analytics weekly and monthly; recommend seasonal mark downs on slow sellers and recommend reorders to ensure we maximize sales
  • Ensure all payables are taken care of in coordination with Owner and Bookkeeper

 Product Sourcing

  • Develop seasonal Pinterest trend boards alongside Social Media Marketing Manager, Inventory Manager and Design Intern to provide direction for our buys
  • Research brands popular with our target market
  • Assist in buying and developing private label product
  • Assist with sales of private label product

 Essential Skills and Experience

 The General Manager must have the following skills and experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years professional retail management experience
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects
  • Must be extremely well organized with great attention to detail. Must enjoy the challenges of taking an ambiguous project vision or goal and translate it into concrete objectives and steps
  • Strong understanding of Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to effectively interface with senior management
  • Must possess solid decision-making ability, independence, and initiative
  • Must be able to teach train and motivate staff in sales techniques
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Shopify POS system
  • Must be able to quickly learn new concepts
  • Must have a strong grasp of retail math (margins, mark up etc.)
  • Exceptional reliability and always exhibits a high degree of professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Must be able to translate ideas and needs into action with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for cultural values, practices, beliefs, and social experiences of diverse communities; effectively and comfortable engages in a variety of cultural settings
